Pathfinders: Lighting the Way for ALS

Everything ALS Pathfinders Guide

In our 'CARE TO CURE' mission, the pathfinders are the core team in supporting from their own experience navigation of the disease for individuals diagnosed with ALS (PALS) and their families.

Addressing Isolation

Isolation can manifest in physical, mental, and emotional forms. A Pathfinder listens to PALS for cues and discusses solutions that could help meet their needs.

Tools and Resources

New tools and resources are continuously being developed to ease daily life for pALS and their families. Pathfinders are knowledgeable about ALS and actively seek awareness of tools that help pALS live as normal a life as possible. Examples include custom-adapted wheelchairs, adaptive methods for eating, holding phones, opening doors, and eye-gaze technology, to name just a few.

Who can be a Pathfinder?

A Pathfinder is someone who has the time, compassion, and experience needed to support individuals diagnosed with ALS and their families.

What kind of support does a Pathfinder provide?

Firstly, we aim to match our personalities and experiences to build trust between the pALS, their loved ones, and the Pathfinder. pALS need a good listener, which is crucial for encouraging open communication. Once trust is established, pALS feel more comfortable expressing their true feelings. We prioritize privacy to help pALS share their personal concerns without fear.

Community Engagement

Pathfinders participate in our Expert Talk series, monthly Fireside Chats, and planning meetings. These events allow us to maintain visibility within the ALS community and foster trusting relationships through interaction and support.

Everything ALS App

The Everything ALS app, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, includes various features to support pALS, their families, and their doctors. One section, called 'Connect: Ask Anything' lets users meet the Pathfinders. Each Pathfinder has a photo and a bio detailing their experiences, whether as someone with ALS or as a caregiver. Pathfinders are like pen pALS, but we are Care PALS.

The Right and Responsibility to Ask Questions

By Shawn Penno

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English.

There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don’t look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn’t anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text. All the Lorem Ipsum generators on the Internet tend to repeat predefined chunks as necessary, making this the first true generator on the Internet.
